Fringe Sketch

  1. Who has been working directly and indirectly in this space?

Scientists. They have been the leading contributors to developments in climate change—as their research is driven to make predictions on temperature changes and offer advice as to what cleaner forms of energy we could use and other means to ensure that we are not contributing to the acceleration of climate change.

2. Who has been funding or otherwise encouraging experimentation in this space?

Few businesses and most government officials. Businesses, such as Amazon and JPMorgan, have allocated funds into climate change relief programs and, in the case of Amazon, have developed their own pledges—the Climate Pledge—to commit their efforts into slowing down climate change. Government officials have also recognized the severity of climate change and have enacted a plethora of Bills, agreements, and other cooperative means with other countries to mitigate the effects of climate change both individually and as a whole.

3. Who might be directly impacted by this development?

The global society. Any and all parties are affected by climate change; while some countries may be more vulnerable and susceptible to the drastic effects of climate change, it still has a drastic effect on the entire globe. Developing countries benefit most from the positive advancements that mitigate climate change; funding could either go into relocating poorer areas or into efforts to ensure that they are safe where they are.

4. Who might be incentivized to work against this kind of change, either because they stand to gain something or because they might lose something?

Some members of society. We face a large problem where some cling onto this idea that climate change is not real or, to a lesser degree, is not as detrimental as it seems. So, in many cases, these people will either not aid in the efforts to reduce the climate change or allocate funds elsewhere—if they have the power to do so—instead of investing it into greener programs and methods of production.

5. Who might see these ideas as a starting point for something bigger and better?

Businesses and government officials. As more developments are publicized about the changes in climate change, both government officials and businesses can allocate funds into new deals or initiatives that can help in stopping climate change’s progression. New ideas arise every day, and how many of these ideas come to fruition is through changes in budgets and adequate funding.
